Hey y'all! Yeah y'all is a thing now, at least while I'm here, because everyone says it here and some members make fun of me when I say you guys... Anyway, this week was a lot of firsts for me! On Saturday I hit my one month of being out! One down and 17 to go! Ehhh seems like I've already been gone for at least a couple months! One great thing about the mish is that we get a birthday every month! We call it click day and we always get a treat on click day. I chose a cookie dough blizzard, bless. I also mowed my first lawn ever this week. Sounds odd but having 4 brothers I've never had to do that! We did a bunch of service this week and it was so fun! Oh and I also ate beans for the first time. Let me just say I don't like beans. Yesterday we visited Sister Soto, an awesome Puerto Rican lady, and she made us rice and beans and to my surprise I didn't mind them and it helped that Sis. Soto is a great cook. Then later that night we ate dinner with a family in the ward and lo and behold she served up chilli. I've really been trying not to be a picky eater as a missionary because a lot of these people don't have a ton and they are still so willing to give to us missionaries and feed us. So after a few prayers and by the grace of God I ate every last bean I was given. I lived and I'll stop being a drama queen for the rest of the blog.;)
My last first this week was being able to teach a full lesson by myself. It was to two little girls. The older of the two is almost 8 so she is learning more so she can choose to be baptized. I taught them about the things we can do in this life to return to live with Heavenly Father again. Mid lesson the girl stopped and pointed to a picture of Jesus Christ teaching people. She pointed to it and said, "That's like what you are doing!" and then she said she wanted to be baptized and be a missionary one day like me. I about cried. I've been kind of homesick this week and so her saying that gave me so much comfort in knowing this is where I am supposed to be. I love that family. All the families in this ward are truly amazing. We actually just came from brunch at Mama and Papa Vaasens and I ate my weight in banana nut waffles! Mama Vassen says that Salem is the Celestial Kingdom of the mission and I am so grateful to be here.
This week we got to meek Trish. She is a mom of two beautiful little ones and she has had a rough go. It's so crazy how the Lord prepares people for us to teach. She is so strong and has such a desire to get closer to her savior for herself and her family. We invited her to church and she said she would come but she stood us up. Turns out guys and investigators (people looking into the church) are good at that, but I'm not giving up on her. I know how much this gospel could bless her young family and so I hope she will let us keep teaching her. It's crazy the difference I see the gospel make in lives. I've seen it in my own life and because of that I know why my job is so important. So people can have the happiness in this life that God intends for them to have.
Okay last thing I want to talk about real quick is General Conference. I am so pumped to listen to the Prophet and Apostles talk! I know modern day Prophets and Apostles sounds kind of weird but when you think about the way Christ set up his church when he was on Earth, with Prophets and Apostles, it makes more sense. I have such a testimony that they are called and guided by God to help us and direct us. Even if you are not a member of this church, I challenge you to stay in your PJs and watch General Conference this upcoming Saturday and Sunday. I promise that something they say will give you peace and comfort and help you in your life. You guys. This gospel is so cool and I am so grateful every day to be out here on the Lord's errand. I miss y'all and am so thankful for the love, support, packages and prayers you send my way. Kloveyoubye Sister Fisher
