Okay so I think I ended my last blog post with and I quote "Lovin' the Mish life".....Well today I'm going to be slightly more negative, because being a missionary is freaking hard.
Lets me just throw a pity party for myself about how yesterday went. We had two of our people drop us and stop taking the lessons, we got stood up for a lesson, and I had to eat beans again! Up to this point I have brushed most of these things off and continued on with the work. But the more we get dropped and stood up and ignored the more it eats at me. I also have a bunch of missionaries that I follow and I read all their weekly emails. While it's great that most of them are having a lot of success and getting to teach a lot of interested people, I am over reading the success stories. I know I'm being a bitter brat but it is hard to listen to all these other people doing great things when you aren't having a lot of progress or success with anyone. I'm just being dumb and getting annoyed but I just want people to hear us out. We go door to door and try to talk with people everywhere, but the reality is that no one really wants to listen. They are happy with the lives they have and don't want anything to disrupt that. But gosh if they would just stinking listen. That's all we really ask. We want them to have all the information they can so they can pray about it and find the truth out for themselves. How do you help people that don't want to be helped ya know?
I'm sorry it's not all rainbows and glitter this week. But a slightly more positive perspective came when I was reading the Book of Mormon. I was reading about this guy named Alma. Total stud. Anyway he was a great missionary who went around his land trying to teach everyone about Jesus and repentance and stuff. Some people heard what he had to say and let the message he shared change their lives for the better, but some were more hard hearted and pretty rude to him when he was trying to teach them. They spat on him and threw him out of the city. It was madness. So he was walking away and was all bummed and then out of no where an angel appeared to Alma and was like, Hey Alma what the heck are you doing. You have so many reasons to be happy right now so knock it off and turn around and go back to that city and teach those rude people again. Even though I'm sure he wasn't super stoked about going back to these awful people It says in the next verse that after he received this message from the Lord he returned speedily to Ammonihah (the city). Later on he meets this cool guy Amulek who was prepared to help Alma and protect him. They ended up still being persecuted but in the end they had great success in helping others come unto Christ and receiving the truth.
What I take from that story is that even though things are hard I'm not going to be a baby and give up. God as a reason for everything and he's asking me everyday to get up and try to find people that are prepared and that desire to know more. If I give up now I could miss a chance to serve my Heavenly Father and maybe change someone's life. Oh and this story is found in chapter 8 of Alma in the Book of Mormon if you want to read it yourself because my paraphrasing is interesting. Okay my rant is officially over.
In other news, Sister Soto taught Neilson and I how to make this delicious chicken bacon stir fry stuff. Also Brother Houchins taught us how to change a tail light. Cool short story with that. We were in auto-zone getting the bulbs to replace the lights and they wouldn't allow our mission to pay over the phone so we couldn't get them. All the guys in there were making fun of us too because we are dumb girls who no nothing about stupid cars. Anyway then this nice guy behind us in line bought them after we left and stopped us on our way out and gave them to us. Kind man took pity on us. That is my proof for the week that most people don't suck.
On the real though, so blessed to be in Salem and with Sister Neilson. Even when it's slow we're always having a good time. It's weird but the rejection and stuff makes me even more confident that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints is the true church. It contains not only the complete truth but the authority from God. Wow it's just great stuff. Thank you for all the love, support, packages, and letters! Have a great week and congrats to the Homedale boys on being undefeated district camps! So cool!
Kloveyoubye!
